On the afternoon of December 22, 2020, Professor Quangsheng Liu from Université de Bretagne-Sud (France) gave an online report entitled “Large Deviations for Products of Random Matrices”. Professor Jiangang Qi , executive vice-president of School of Mathematics and Statistics, hosted this talk. Teachers Zhang Xu, Wang Xiaoqiang, Zhang Yusen, Zhou Li, Hu Qinqin, Gao Zhiqiang, Ye Yinna, Fan Xiequan and graduate students of our school attended this report online.

In this talk, Professor Liu introduced the basic concepts of large deviations, related theories and applications in branching random walks at the beginning . Then he mainly presented his milestone results about large deviations for products of random matrices, which have numerous applications in a variety of problems in pure and applied probability. At last, he had an in-depth discussion on the related issues in this talk with teachers and students, explained the questions raised by participants, and shared the further research in the field of large deviations. In addition, Professor Liu also enthusiastically introduced Universitéde Bretagne-Sud, and how to apply for scholarships for students. From this talk, teachers and students all obtained better understandings of large deviation and random matrix, and benefit a lot.

The successful holding of this report has strengthened atmosphere in researching probability theory in our school, and deepened the friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
